Palm tail springs are the uniquely spiral-shaped botanical elements of the Borassus flabellifer palm tree, native to South and Southeast Asia (Sugar palm group). Uses

• Aquarium: Palm tail springs promote biofilm that shrimp especially enjoy grazing on, creating natural microfauna hotspots, and contribute to a naturalistic blackwater aquascape. Important note: These springs do elongate when wet — the coils spread farther apart in water and it essentially becomes a long vine, which is a normal and expected behavior.

Aquarium Preparation

1. Boil: (Boiling will cause the palm spring to lose its shape and become a wavy vine) Boil for at least 15 minutes to help them sink and leach initial tannins.
2. Soak: Soak in clean water overnight or longer, changing water daily, until fully waterlogged and desired tannin level is reached.
3. Ready to Use: Once they sink and you've achieved your desired water coloration, add to your tank.
