Whole pear seed pods are thick, sectioned pods from the Schrebera swietenoides tree, known by several common names including pear pods, mohka pods, and beguni fruit. These are the whole, unsplit version of our popular pear pods — extremely dense and durable, they hold their structure exceptionally well in both aquariums and terrariums.

Uses

Aquarium: When properly prepared, whole pear pods release a moderate amount of tannins, promote biofilm, and provide natural hiding spots that stimulate natural behaviors in fish and shrimp. Very dense pods that hold up exceptionally well over time.
Springtail Culture: Excellent for harvesting springtails from a soil culture — their dense, sectioned form gives springtails plenty of surface area to colonize.
Bioactive Terrarium: Isopods and springtails enjoy hiding in these pods; they add texture to the enclosure floor and serve as a long-lasting food source as they break down.

Aquarium Preparation

Boil: Boil for at least 15 minutes to help them sink and leach initial tannins.
Soak: Soak in clean water overnight or longer, changing water daily, until fully waterlogged and desired tannin level is reached.
Ready to Use: Once they sink and you've achieved your desired water coloration, add to your tank.
